Vendor Biography

Paula Colman, an oil painter new to Florida, has been artistically expressive her entire life. Since childhood, she has designed clothing and architectural house plans, and has won numerous awards for her jewelry, textile, and ceramic works.

Through her education and career as a psychotherapist, Paula continued to pursue the visual arts, training as an oil painter for the past 15 years.  Her evolution as a painter has taken her through a representational, realistic style to abstract expressionism.

Her love and concern for the beauty of nature and natural environments inspires her to paint with dramatic distortions of landscape imagery, color, and texture. Her painting style is very visceral, gestural, and spontaneous. She uses household items (such as cardboard, knives, rollers, sandpaper, and large brushes) as painting instruments to create depth and dramatic effect.

As an abstract expressionistic painter, Paula’s intent is to elicit a strong, emotional response from the viewer and immediate connection to her paintings.
